This is not a good sign. The longest running soap opera, and one of the longest running TV series ever, has officially been canceled. Guiding Light will end mid-September.
Those who would say that daytime, and to some degree, network TV is dying are not to far off. Networks are not getting the viewers that they had in the past. Daytime is paying the price. Who knows what show will be next...
I will say that CBS gave it a good try to keep the show on the air. They were creative with how they cut costs, and they took risks with the stories being told. Obviously it wasn't reflecting in the ratings.
It is a sad day for soap fans. A classic is being laid to rest.
