Eve stood in Barbi's office, the Chicago skyline visible through the large, picture window. The night sky seemed to glow a deep purple with all the light polution. She shivered. She had never, in her entire modeling career, feared her manager until she joined Barbi Starr at Dollhouse Modeling.
"What the hell am I doing here?" She glanced around the empty room. The whole building was deserted. What else would she expect at nine at night on a Saturday?
She had gotten the text message from Barbi early that night.
Meet me at my office tonight at 9.
Barbi said jump, and Eve asked how high. She had actually broken a date with Derrick Patterson, the top photographer in Chicago, to come here.
She brushed her short, black hair behind her ears and crossed her arms over her chest. Barbi was never late. If she hadn't sent the message, then who had?
Jade Cross.
That bitch had been on her back before the ink on Eve's contract had dried. Why Barbi's assistant had it out for her, she had no idea, but she did. Everyone in the agency knew about her date. Jade was probably out at the bar right now trying to make a move on Derrick.
Eve turned, ready to storm out the office, but she froze when she saw the figure standing in the doorway. She screamed.
"Very funny." She took a step back, her hand going to her chest. She let out a small laugh.
The figure was wearing a long black cloak, the hood covering the person's face. She couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman.
"What? Does Dollhose do hazing or something?" She took a step forward, moved to leave the office, when the figure grabbed her arm.
Then Eve saw it, the sharp blade hidden under the long sleeve of the cloak.
She looked up, looking the hooded figure right in the face, and she caught a brief glimpse of the person's mouth. They were smiling.
Then Eve felt a sharp pain in her side as the blade found it's mark. She stumbled back, colliding with the desk, falling and landing hard on the floor. She cringed. She looked up and could see the cloaked figure advancing on her, the knife raised.
Eve screamed.
